Customer Resources
Everything you need to know about hiring tradespeople through HomeHelp24
How It Works
1. Post Your Job
Describe what work you need done and select the trades required (plumber, electrician, carpenter, or multiple). Include timing preferences - ASAP for emergencies or scheduled for planned work.
2. Get Matched with Local Contractors
Local contractors see your job and express interest if it matches their skills and availability. Alternatively, you can browse our contractor listing to find and contact tradespeople.
3. Direct Contact - You're in Control
When a contractor expresses interest, you get their contact details to call them directly, and they get yours. Initially, only one contractor gets your details - you control whether to request additional contractors.
4. You Decide Everything
Choose who to hire based on your phone conversations. Get quotes, check references, and negotiate prices directly with contractors. All work arrangements and payments happen between you and your chosen tradesperson.
Choosing the Right Contractor
Positive Indicators
- Business website - Shows investment in their trade
- Local landline or business phone - Established presence
- Public liability insurance - Professional protection
- Local references - Previous satisfied customers
- Clear written quotes - Professional communication
- Detailed material breakdown - Transparency in pricing
Warning Signs
- No phone number - Only uses messaging apps
- Full payment upfront - Before work starts
- Significantly below market rate - Too good to be true
- No local references - Can't provide previous customers
- Reluctant about insurance - Won't provide details
- Pushy sales tactics - Pressure to sign immediately
Remember
These are guidelines, not absolute rules. A newer contractor without a website can still provide excellent service. Trust your instincts and ask the right questions during your phone conversations.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is HomeHelp24 free for customers?
Yes, completely free. No charges, no hidden fees.
How many contractors will contact me?
You receive contractor details one at a time. You can request more contractors if needed.
Why did a contractor disappear from my matches?
A contractor's interests will no longer appear if they delete their account. This is rare but can happen. If you need more contractors, click "Invite further interest" on the relevant workstream for the job.
Do you vet the contractors?
No, we don't vet contractors. We facilitate introductions - all vetting is your responsibility.
What if I'm not happy with the work?
Resolve issues directly with the contractor. We don't mediate disputes or handle payments.
Can I post jobs requiring multiple trades?
Yes! Select multiple trades when posting. Each trade type will have separate contractor interest streams.
How quickly will contractors respond?
Response times will vary based on contractor availability in your area.
Can I search for contractors instead of posting a job?
Yes! Our contractor directory lets you browse registered tradespeople by location and trade type. You can view their profiles, websites, and reviews, then contact them directly. If you want them to self-select their availability by expressing interest you can also post a job and let them come to you!
